If you do your homework, you're showing respect for your potential, your aptitude, or your future self who will want the preparation that it provides.
|
If you participate positively in class, you're being respectful of yourself and others.
|
Etc. |
It's always best to be prepared (even if you're not a Boy Scout). For English class, you will always need:
your planner
your binder (with plenty of paper in it for notes and other uses)
the novel/book with which we are currently working
a writing implement
When you come into the classroom, your Prime Time task will be posted on the board or screen.
Please use the time you are given to follow the directions posted.
In English 7, we will interact with a variety of different resources.
The books we will read together are as follows:
Project Mulberry by Linda Sue Park
Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman
Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes
The Giver by Lois Lowry
In addition, we will study Shakespeare's Macbeth
and complete a research project on the Harlem Renaissance.
In English 7, we will continue to investigate metaphorical masks: what they hide, why they are used, and the merits of illuminating what is behind the mask of our characters and ourselves.
Your are expected to read at least 20 minutes each night. If you do not have assigned reading from class, you should always have a choice book on hand. You will need to report on your reading in various ways each quarter. more guidelines will be given later and will be found on the Reading page.
The Reading List (from which you need to read at least one book a quarter) can be found via a link on the Reading page (or by clicking here).
Time for silent reading will be given most Mondays, so you should be sure to bring a reading book with you to class each Monday. Otherwise you will need to borrow a book from the class bookshelf.
If you will have a scheduled absence, please let me know as soon as possible in order to obtain the materials you will miss.
With scheduled and unscheduled absences alike, be sure to check the web page to make sure you know what is going on and what is needed for class when you return.
Come to talk with me directly when you do return so we can make a plan for you to catch up on what was missed.
If you need to get in touch with me, there are several options.
Send me an email. (Please realize that email sent after 3:30 may not be read until the next day. Also, email sent first thing in the morning may not be read until lunch time or the sports period.)
Call me at my office. My extension at school is x8421. I usually check voice mail at lunch.
After 3:30, try me at home. My home number is in the directory. The best time to try is after 7.
